Our Front Porch Makeover
Today I’m excited to share the reveal of our Front Porch Makeover. Remember earlier this year I shared a few home goals with you, including a refresh to our lovely southern style wraparound porch? Well, we’ve been hard at work this winter, from restoring our circa 1863 wooden front door, to sanding down and repainting our original porch floors. I’m so thrilled with the progress that we’ve made, and I hope that you love it too!
In addition to my own reveal, today is made even more special by the fact that I’ve joined with 27 other home & decor bloggers to take you on a Spring Home Tour. We could all use a bit of beauty in our lives right now. From recipes to table settings, room makeovers to front porches, the posts from my fellow bloggers and design enthusiasts should provide plenty of springtime inspiration.
Without further ado…let’s get to the reveal!
Our Front Entry
Let’s start at the front entry, since it’s the first impression when visiting any home. Prior to the transformation, our entry left much to be desired…a tired, old wooden door, a sad doormat, cracked and peeling porch floors. All of the bones were there, but the old girl needed some sprucing!
I’d say that we’re thoroughly spruced now. It’s hard to choose which part was the biggest transformation. Our porch floors are looking so fresh and lovely. Our front door is absolutely stunning with a newly restored sheen. And our new gas lantern! Can you believe that my husband installed that himself?? Each time we turn it on, I feel like I’m instantly transported to New Orleans or Charleston. It’s the ultimate romantic luxury.
Our New Planter Boxes
I’m especially proud of our new planter boxes, as they were a DIY project that I dreamed-up and my husband built. I wanted something that would remind me of the planter boxes in the gardens at Versailles. I think we hit the mark with these.
Our Copper Mailbox
We also updated our mailbox for this transformation. Before we had a vintage brass mailbox. It was lovely, but so very small. Our sweet mailman had to roll up magazines into tightly rolled tubes just to fit them inside. Our new copper mailbox is just the style I was looking for. It’s plenty roomy, and best of all, it coordinates perfectly with the new gas lantern.
Our New Seating Area
This is a bench that we assembled for the Front Porch Makeover. As you can probably tell, it’s a DIY project using a headboard from a twin sized bed. We assembled the bench, then I painted and lightly distressed it and applied an outdoor varnish. I’m thrilled with how it turned out, and better yet, most items were things that we already had on hand. Now this is the perfect spot to sip on something sweet, and enjoy the outdoors.
