19th C Antique Hungarian Pine Storage Bench
This rustic European antique is a Hungarian storage bench or pine settle dating from the mid-to-late 1800's. Crafted from pine, it has a warm and mellow tone, with all of the right patina. We love the charming details on this bench, from the scrolled arms and carved detail along the top rail, to the turned bobbin-style back splats.
This bench traces its roots to the region that was formerly the Austrian Empire, when the Habsburg Monarchy ruled much of present day Austria, Romania, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Historically in the small villages of this region, the family gathering spot during temperate months was on a wide porch or veranda where this bench would have been located.
