About the Artist:
Henri Gaston Darien (1864 - 1926) was a 19th Century French painter who kept company with the most highly respected artists of the Parisian art scene. Born in Paris, Darien spent most of his life there. Darien was an esteemed member of the Société des Artistes Français, and he frequently exhibited at their Salons. He studied with Jules Joseph Lefebvre and renowned French landscape painter Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Guillemet (whose other students included Paul Cezanne).

Henri Gaston Darien's style combines elements of realism with Impressionism. He exhibited at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris. He was made a knight in the Légion d’Honneur in 1910. Other paintings by Darien such as "A Lazy Afternoon" and "A Bustling Street Scene, Paris" have sold through Christie's Auction House for 26,290 GBP and 69,700 GBP respectively.
