19th Century Swedish Gustavian Bench
This lovely piece is an early 19th century Swedish Gustavian bench or sofa. Crafted from pine, it features elegantly reeded banding along the bottom perimeter. The bench features a high, sculptural back, with Neoclassical style sphynx ornamentation. The bench comes with a brand new hand-tufted Belgian linen bench cushion in Quercus // Wedgwood from Lauren Servati Textiles. Featuring an original pale gray painted finish, this piece has been lightly scraped revealing earlier painted finishes beneath, and imparting a warm and graceful patina to this lovely Swedish pine bench.
Lift off the bench seat to reveal a full storage drawer with hand dovetailed joinery. The drawer slides out offering plenty of storage space. It could even be used as a daybed.
