[ SOLD] 19th C Hungarian Pine Storage Bench
This gorgeous piece is an antique Hungarian pine box bench or settle dating from the mid-to-late 1800's. Constructed from pine, this beautiful piece features its' original waxed pine finish, with a mellow honey tone. The bench seat raises on original iron hinges to reveal ample storage space inside.
Historically, in the small rural villages of Hungary and Romania, the family gathering spot during temperate months was on a wide porch or veranda where this bench would have been located. These benches were the spot where the family would gather. Other Eastern European benches such as this one, would be grain painted to look like walnut or oak.
Dimensions: 72”W x 21”D x 40”H
Condition: Scratches, nicks, bumps. Some evidence of earlier alterations to the base of the back two legs. Overall a truly beautiful piece, with plenty of age appropriate patina
