French Louis Philippe Secretaire à Abattant
This handsome piece is a 19th century Louis Philippe Secretary, or in French, a secretaire à abattant. This secretary with fall-front desk is crafted from French oak with beautifully book-matched figured mahogany veneer.
An ogee drawer is concealed in the cornice (beneath the marble top). Just below, the desktop opens to reveal a leather writing surface with gold tooled detailing at the perimeter. Inside, there are six small drawers for storing your most prized possessions. You can use the original skeleton key and antique French lock to secure your belongings.
Below, open the pair of cabinet doors to reveal three additional hand-dovetailed drawers which provide ample storage space, and a fourth drawer concealed in the bottom skirting. This secretary features an original black Sainte Anne marble top, and rests on ogee feet.
We think that this piece would make a lovely addition to a library or study, and would be equally well-suited as a correspondence desk in a bedroom or sitting room.
Dimensions: 38.25ʺW × 17ʺD × 57.75ʺH
Condition: Minor bumps and scratches, with small splits in the veneer, and a rectangular veneer repair beneath the escutcheon plate on the top drawer (shown in photos).
