This handsome piece is an early 19th century Louis Philippe Secretary, or in French, a secretaire à abattant. This secretary with fall-front desk is crafted from French Walnut with beautifully book-matched fruit wood veneer.

An ogee drawer is concealed in the plinth (beneath the marble top). Just below, the desktop opens to reveal a black leather writing surface with silver greek key tooled detailing at the perimeter. Inside, there are five small drawers for storing your most prized possessions. You can use the original skeleton key and antique double French lock to secure your belongings.

Below, three additional hand-dovetailed drawers provide ample storage space. The secretary features a rich, black marble top, and rests on bun feet.

We think that this piece would make a handsome addition to a library or study, and would be equally well-suited as a correspondence desk in a bedroom or sitting room.

Dimensions: 36.5”W  x 16.25”D x 56”H

Condition: Minor nicks, bumps and scratches; There are small splits in the veneer on both sides, and on the front panel and the lower right corner of the fall-front desk (shown in photos); Marble top has light scratches. The desktop rests at a slight downward angle when opened. Overall this is a beautiful piece in good antique condition.
