19th C Painted Swedish Dome Top Trunk, Primitive European Marriage Chest
This charming piece is a Swedish dome-top trunk, or marriage chest dating from the mid 1800's. The chest retains its' original hand painted finish in a warm and earthy palette, and the front panel has been adorned with a traditional floral garland motif.
It features a characteristic domed top, and has been crafted from pine with hand dovetailed joinery. The chest opens to reveal ample storage space. Period authentic hardware such dog bone style iron hinges add the finishing touch to this rustic European piece.
Traditionally a Swedish “kista” or coffer / chest would have been gifted to a young couple on the occasion of their marriage.
