18th C French Regence Carved Giltwood Parclose Mirror

$3,795.00

This rare and special piece is a Regence period giltwood mirror dating from the early 18th century. It retains its' original mercury glass mirror, where a desirable loss of silver lends an authentic timeworn patina. The frame with its gracefully carved leaf, scroll, and flower motifs are all representative of the softer, feminine style of the Regence period. The frame feature a harmonious blend of painted colors, with raised areas being accentuated by a lightly gilded finish.

The name Parclose comes from the arrangement of separate pieces of glass which surround the perimeter of the central mercury looking glass. The term 'parclose" or "parcloses" refers to the delicate molding which joins the inner and outer frames of the mirror.

Petite in stature at 27"h by 15.4"w, we think that this antique French mirror would make an elegant and charming addition to almost any room, from a focal point in an entry or over a mantle, to a statement-making addition in a powder room.

Dimensions: 15.4”W  x 2”D x 27”H

Condition: There is some silver loss to the mirror. Minor losses to the carving around the frame. Painted finish may be of a later date. There are some hairline cracks in the frame and one small hairline crack in the lower right perimeter mirror (as shown in photos). Overall in beautiful condition for a piece of this age.

Shipping: This piece includes complimentary shipping (within the 48 contiguous United States). Most pieces arrive within 3 weeks. Please note that all pieces are final sale. Reach out to us with any questions prior to purchasing.
