Original Thonet Bench, Settee No. 1, 19th C
It's not every day you come across an authentic Thonet settee numbered Thonet No. 1. This is a rare and special find.
This lovely bentwood settee / bench is an original Thonet, dating from the late 19th century. Manufactured in Vienna, this iconic brand often furnished the elegant old world coffee shops throughout Vienna and Paris, where intellectuals and artists would gather. One can only imagine who could have sat on this bench throughout the years, meeting to divulge the latest society gossip or discuss world events.
This fine example still has it's original caned seat (note one small hole in the caning, as seen in the photos), and proudly bears the original maker's mark which reads "Thonet 1". Use this in a foyer or hallway as a statement-making piece, or even at the foot of a bed. This rare find would make a special addition to any home.

Condition: Wear consistent with age. A few minor scratches and dings. One small hole in the caning. Some abrasion on the front apron of the seat. Overall a lovely piece with beautiful patina.
